Pay attention to hunting season. Connecticut is no hunting on Sundays.
Overview
The trails at Moween range from intermediate to expert with optional natural features. This is a fun, technical loop. There are lots of trail features including jumps, drops, rollers, log rides, and up-and-overs.
Need to Know
Currently parking is limited.
Description
Start at the curve on Scott Hill Rd, head up a small hill on
Neil's Way (
Orange Blaze Spur to Orange Blaze Trail) bearing right as you come off of the first small downhill. Follow
Neil's Way around to the cart road. Look for the
Black Dot trail just down to your right on the cart road (20 yards or so).
Follow the
Black Dot trail around. This trail is new, and it's where the new parking lot is expected to be put in for the park. The new parking lot will be on Scott Hill Rd and the
Black Dot will pass either right by it or through it.
Follow the
Black Dot to the intersection of the
Yellow Trail and
White Trail. Go straight onto the
White Trail. The
White Trail will cross over a few green cart road trails but stay on it until the the trail dumps straight into the
Red Trail. The
White Trail has a number of rock up-and-overs or rollers. Towards the end of the
White Trail you'll pass a "living" log ride. It's a live tree that grew sideways on the ground.
The
Red Trail has lots of features, too many to list and is the most difficult trail in the park. Whenever you come to an intersection with a doubletrack trail, always go straight following the red markers. The
Red Trail will run straight into the
Yellow Trail, again lots of rock-rollers and a few drops. The same rule applies at all doubletrack intersections; look to go straight through this time following the yellow tags.
The
Yellow Trail will bring you back to the intersection of the
Black Dot and
White Trail. Bear right onto the
Black Dot and follow the trail in reverse from your entry to
Neil's Way.
History & Background
Moween was where the Polaroid camera was invented, or something like that.
