Easy elevation, hard to get lost, good tread.
Kaplan's Woods Hours: 6 AM - 11 PM
Description
This is the new section of singletrack in Kaplan's Woods. While the overall elevation difference is short in this park (~30'), the contours of the land for these loops get more dramatic.
Steep descents will keep you on your brakes, and the climbs make the most of the landscape to give you a workout. The trail has decent flow, but off-camber turns at the bottom of descents with trees on the inside corner will keep you on your toes. There's a handful of fun rock and log overs, and I suspect more are on their way.
The trail is well-maintained by the trail crew. It crosses a walking/ski path many times, so watch out for walkers and always be respectful. The junctions are well-signed with maps and pointers indicating the direction to the next junction. It's hard to get lost in these woods.
To get to the trail, from the parking lot, head south on the main walking trail. Cross the bridge and the walking path makes a T with another walking path at the base of a hill. The singletrack starts immediately in front of you, across the path from the bridge, jutting off to the right, uphill.
The singletrack ends back on the main walking trail close to where it started, making it easy to take multiple laps. To extend your ride, hit up any of the walking path, doubletrack trails that network throughout the rest of the park. Be sure to bring bug spray during the wet season in the summer.
