This trail is not very technical. The features are very manageable with gradients for kids of most ages.
Need to Know
Bring lots of water, as the only place to get water is the Santos Trailhead. Also, most of the trails at Santos (including this one) are two-way trails, so be on the lookout for oncoming riders. Finally, if you experience a mechanical issue or get a flat on the trail, there is a local bike shop located at 8924 S. Hwy 441 Ocala, FL 34480.
Description
The trail starts off with a left turn into the woods. The surface of the trail is mostly hard-pack singletrack with the occasional root here and there. Dog Bone starts with a gently sloping downhill section followed by some relatively flat singletrack. At about 0.5 miles in, there will be a slight uphill climb lasting about 0.15 miles. During the climb, you'll see the entrance to
Dog Tail on your left.
At the crest of the climb (0.7 miles), the entrance to
Kennz Kornerz can be found on your right. Immediately after the exit of
Kennz Kornerz, the entrance to
Twister and
Back Door are on your right. After this, the trail flows into another gentle slope that eventually feeds into more flat singletrack with minute elevation changes.
At about 1.4 miles, the trail turns and begins to parallel SE 25th Avenue for about 0.6 miles. At about 1.8 miles, the entrance to
Puppy Loop can be found on your right. Finally, at 2.1 miles, the trail pops out onto the
Vortex Access Road. Turn right to enter the
Vortex Area, or turn left to cross SE 25th Avenue and enter the Santos Area.
