Climbs are not too intense and offer plenty of wildlife and views.
Overview
This ride offers the most of what Las Catalinas has to offer. Experiencing mellow climbs littered with banked corners, natural rock gardens and epic ocean views around switchback turns. Being a more downhill oriented rider, this trail offers the least amount of climbing for the most amount of jumps, rollers, berms and rocky gnar.
Need to Know
BRING WATER! The temperatures here soar once 2pm rolls around.
These are multi-use trails. Be aware of hikers as well.
Description
Taking off straight from the center of Las Catalinas or Pura Vida Ride shop where you can rent bikes, the trail begins with a sweet double bridge crossing next to the beach eventually crossing the parking lot and turning into the trail Principal.
From there, you pass through covered forest with banked corners and armored rock creek crossings. The entire trail system is groomed for smooth straights but still offers the natural rocky terrain in spots. The mellow, gradual climbs plateau to banked corners and flowing ascents. Often you don't feel like you are gaining elevation.
As you cross trails to Punta Guachipelines, switchbacks are your hardest challenge on this ride but boast the most epic views of the oceans and islands surrounding Las Catalinas. Your suffering was not in vain, you've reached the top!
After reaching the top and having a full 360° view of the ocean and mountains, you can either head down the same way you came up (boasting the best downhill in the area) or continue on to link up with the connector heading back to connect with Principal and down to the beach!
