Description
From the outskirts of the village of Grainau, you'll follow a gradually climbing agricultural road (limited traffic) passing through farmland until it crosses the main road Eibseestraße. Once you reach Eibseestraße, the trail becomes a winding gravel path through the forest.
This trail is fairly wide as Bavaria has the "2 meter rule" which limits bikes to paths greater than 2 meters in width. From Eibseestraße, the trail climbs more steeply until you reach the Eibsee Lake.
This is a good place to take a break as the lake is very picturesque with views of the Zugspitze. There is also the
Eibseerunde (Eibsee Lake Loop), an easy trail around the lake, or you can continue onto the
Eibsee to Obermoos trail into Austria. There are restaurants near the lake which offer meals with an appropriate beverage.
For an even better view, leave your bike at the Eibsee base and take the Eibsee Seilbahn (Cable Car) to the summit of the Zugspitze, which is the highest point in Germany at 2962 m (9718 ft).
