Come ready for a big day as you are in the backcountry on this trail!

Description

While this trail does extend farther than this particular route, this is the most popular mountain biking portion. The trail stretches to the east past the North Borrego Trail #150, but you'll quickly hit the Pecos Wildnerness (where bikes are not allowed).

The trail also stretches past the Viejo Trail #179 to the west, but you'll eventually get to the Nambe Pueblo where mountain biking may not be allowed.

The trail intersects the North Borrego Trail #150 at the Rio Nambe and follows the river for the length of this portion to the Viejo Trail #179. Finding the Viejo Trail #179 is somewhat tough, as you'll have to cross the river, enter a big meadow, cross the meadow and reconnect with the trail on the other side. Don't get lost because you are nowhere near civilization!

The trail itself is a blast as it shoots down the river valley at a pretty quick tempo. The trail offers a lot of variety as it is smooth and fast in sections and technical in others. While not long, this part of your ride will likely be a highlight as it is almost all downhill. The real problem is that you'll have to climb back out on the Viejo Trail #179 and that is sheer masochism!
