Be aware of private property along the bottom portions of the trail. There is no way to use this trail to connect Page Valley Rd to Panhandle Rd without traversing private property--local land owners are very sensitive to trespassing and not friendly to "lost" riders or hikers.
Description
On the eastern end, this trail starts about 1.5 miles up a gated Forest Service access road in Burner's Bottom, off Page Valley Rd, approx.13.5 miles north of Egypt Bend. Note the private property leading up to and around this road; do not turn up any road or trail marked "Private/No Trespassing".
The Forest Service road climbs gradually upwards and is extremely smooth--almost hardpacked at times. Around mile 0.5, pass through a gate and continue to climb along the road until mile 1.5, where you'll reach a turn-around and the start of the Tolliver Trail on your left.
Climb the singletrack upwards towards the ridge; it is gentle and sandy at first, then increasing in steepness and roughness. After a 0.5 miles of climbing, the road will turn right and become very rocky and technical. The Tolliver Trail ends at a subtle fork in the trail where it joins the
Milford Gap Trail.
Left will continue up and over the ridge, where you can join the
Massanutten Trail. Right will take you back downhill towards the abandoned Hazard Mill Canoe Camp.
