This route hits almost all of "the good stuff" at Sals.
Starting from the parking lot at Dodson Park: go past the guardrail and make the first right into the woods. Pass the kiosk and roll down the hill, turning right onto the yellow-blazed
Dodson Trail, then at the bottom of the hill turn right onto the
Upper Red. In a few hundred yards make a right onto
Upper Orange, then a (rare) left turn onto
Lower Red, and right onto
Lower Orange not long after. Follow this, down and then up, until it tees into
Lower Red, and turn right. Continue on
Lower Red, through some rock gardens, some twisty sections and a stream crossing, until it ends at Constitution Drive, making sure to bear right at the intersection to
John's Switchback.
When you come out onto the road, cross the street and pick up the
Lower Spanky in the back of the small parking lot, and get ready to climb, making your way through a few rock gardens and switchbacks for added fun, then make a sharp right onto the
Switchback Trail to continue climbing. Once you're at the top, take a breather at Rest Break Rock, then continue on the
Ridge Trail. Bear right at the intersections with
Nacho Trail, then bear right and cross the powerline to descend on
Girly Man. Bear right again to continue a rocky descent on the
Boulder Bypass, then cross a small bridge and make a right onto the
Upper Spanky, which climbs through a boggy but armored section and ends at Constitution.
You pick up the trail across the street. Take
Sticker Hell, bear left past the next two intersections and bear right onto the
Upper Red trail. This rocky trail starts with a short downhill, then climbs three short hills before a long descent. Turn right onto the
Dodson Return trail, and you're climbing again. Make another right, and you retrace your steps back to the parking lot.
