Description
A significant portion of this segment of the
Portes du Soleil (Gateway to the Sun) is along paved road, but it is a necessary evil to complete the circuit.
This segment starts at the parking lot at the lift base above Les Lindarets. Les Lindarets is also known as Village des Chèvres (Village of the Goats) for the preponderance of goats that inhabit the village. From the parking lot, head downhill on the main D228 road toward the village. The road descends through a series of switchbacks.
Once you reach the Lac de Montriond (Lake), turn left to take the more scenic forest road around the south side of the lake. At the east side of the lake, the route continues on a path to the north of the D228 road. This forest road parallels a creek for a half mile before becoming the paved Route de la Dranse. This road ends at a "T" intersection with the main road D28, Route de Thonon.
Turn right and then quickly left onto the Route du Pre. This road becomes a forest road along a creek which eventually takes you to the center of Morzine and the Route du Palais des Ports. Continue through Morzine to the west side of the creek to take the Pléney Bubble Lift up to the next segment on the circuit:
PdS: Morzine to Les Gets.
