Description

Looks like no one has added details for the first part of this ride. If you know it, adopt this trail and to add to the description.

Just before the two-thirds mark, the trail crosses over N. Freeman Road and soon wanders over to the Freeman Road Trailhead. There is a water cache at Freeman road for through hikers. If you park here, please bring an extra gallon to donate and label it for public use.

The next several miles are one of the nicer segments of the AZ Trail and provide a casual descent and a good place for solitude. The singletrack is fairly flowy as it travels through interesting rock features and lots of desert scrub. Things aren't too rocky, but can be a little sandy in spots. Further along, there are mining and ranch roads on the way to more singletrack. Parts of the road passes within 30-feet of high-power transmission lines, where you might feel a little buzz of energy.

This segment of the AZ Trail continues following Ripley Wash and ends at the start of AZT: Segment 8 - Gila River and Alamo Canyon at Ripley Wash Springs (bring a filter to purify the water flowing from the spring into a trough). If you run into trouble, there is a ranch before the northern end, marked with an "info" icon. The owner is friendly to mountain bikers.
