Description

West Monument Creek Trail splits off of the Stanley Rim Trail (722) near Stanley Reservoir. It's a challenging means to descend from the area.

The first 2.5 miles descend a very steep and lesser-used forest service road, with grades up to 20%. The road dead-ends at a ridge. At mile 2.5 along the road, there is a poorly marked hike-a-bike trail that climbs over the north side of this ridge. This portion of trail is loose with granite scree. It continues over the ridge for about a half mile, until it meets the forest service road on the other side of the ridge which descends into AFA property and eventually meets the AFA Falcon Trail Loop.

Two choices of trail..both meet back together. Black is extreme rock and technical. Green is green...easy.

On the downhill, be careful not to miss the trail cut over the ridge and don't commit to going down the creek
