Description
This relatively unknown trail can't be found on many maps, but it is well maintained and quite beautiful toward the bottom. It's primarily used as a way to connect
Pacheco Canyon Road #102 to
North Borrego Trail #150 and the trails that descend from there. If you plan to descend, you'll need to take the connector that starts at the Aspen Ranch parking lot... and it is hard to find.
The barbwire fence on the west side of the Aspen Ranch parking lot has a small gate (southwest of the parking area). Go through there and up the hill and you'll see a rough jeep road appear out of nowhere. Follow this connecter around a few bends, over some berms and there is usually a cairn to mark the start of the Mineral Trail.
As you head south on Mineral, the trail will be easy and wide. There are no technical features to manage until you get to a crossroads where you can dip into the creek bed. This is perhaps the best (and most beautiful part of the trail). The trail hugs the creek closely but is very defined and well maintained. Soon the trail will kick you out at a makeshift campsite along
Pacheco Canyon Road #102. This trail would make a good climb as well.
