Overview
Rated "intermediate/difficult" for the total elevation gain. This is suitable for trained cyclists, otherwise, no technical difficulties either uphill or downhill.
Description
Assietta Road Loop (Strada dell'Assietta) has a total climb of around 1,620 m (5,300 ft).
The first 7.0 km (4.3 mi) of the climb and last 16 km (10 mi) of the descent are on a decently paved road. The rest unfolds on an old military unpaved road (see
Assietta Road (Unpaved Section)) which can be rough at times and is open yearly from mid-June to the end of October due to snow at high elevation.
Access to motor vehicles is banned on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the months of July and August.

History & Background
The Battle of Assietta was fought in the Italian campaign of the War of the Austrian Succession on 19 July, 1747. It resulted in a defeat for France against the Piedmontese army of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
