Description
A Loop begins at the trailhead on the Blackjack campground road. Upon entering the trailhead, a faded rock marker indicates A Loop beginning to the right. Note that
EZ Loop begins to the left, and returns on the middle trail.
A Loop descends gentle switchbacks for about 0.5 miles before leveling off. Don't miss the rock jump about 0.3 miles along! Some small root-steps will check your speed as the trail levels and flows along pleasantly. Another series of wide switchbacks ascends gradually to a left turn built with a small retaining wall before the trail heads over some iron rocks to a plateau with an old balance beam. To the right, beyond the beam is an emergency exit trail, to the Blackjack campground if needed.
Continue over a loose rock section before another descent on wide flowing switchbacks including a few root and rock sections. Cross a small bridge and prepare for a larger root step-down into a turn, before some fun, flowy trail interrupted by one rooty dip to a low usually-dry crossing.
Once beyond that crossing, the trail flows with only minor elevation changes until reaching the intersection with
B Loop. At the intersection, turn right to return to the Blackjack campground road directly across from the trailhead, or turn left to continue on
B Loop.
