Most of the road is paved from GA 60 through typical rural Georgia farmland as it climbs up to the junction at Cooper Gap with Cooper Gap Road FS42-2 and Cooper Gap Road FS80.

The last mile up to Cooper Gap is through National Forest land on typical north Georgia (gravel) forest road, and most of the climbing occurs in this section.
