Need to Know
You'll like encounter other visitors on this multi-use trail like hikers, trail runners, anglers, dog-walkers, and equestrian riders.
Description
Overall, this is an easy, flat cruise around the ponds. The trails run alongside the Cache La Poudre River and wind around a set of ponds surrounded by woods and fields. Although there is a hum of traffic from nearby I-25, the area provides a scenic and relaxing experience, and is a great place to spot birds and other wildlife.
History & Background
A huge cottonwood tree originally located in this area was used as a meeting place by the Arapahoe Tribe, detail
here. Remains of the historic Strauss cabin (built by Robert Strauss in the 1860s) can still be viewed near the
Rigden Reservoir Trail.
