Description
This is a quick up and down. It utilizes an old sheep trail on the climb and then a quick game of "dodge the ankle-scratching sagebrush". This trail gets more fun the more you ride it. There are a lot of quick turns and dipsy-do's.
Start the track from the
Doubletrack - Chaos Course to Gun Loop 4WD road. The trail starts about a 1/4 mile south of the end of
Roan Cliff Chaos. Take a left, find Surburban Decay veering up to the right. The trail climbs gently and circles around a cone-shaped dirt hill. Top out at an unnamed 4WD road. Take a left on this road and ride east for about 50 yards.
To your left will be a gentle climb up a faint 4WD road. After 30 yards or so, look to your left and you'll see the singletrack begin for Surburban Decay. While challenging to find, once you're on it it's hard to lose. Follow it as it meanders around a grove of juniper trees and then banks left and downhill into full-on sage field slalom. Watch your ankles and enjoy the descent!
The trail squirts up and down, back and forth through the sage. Finally, it finishes in another grove of junipers and connects back to the
Doubletrack - Chaos Course to Gun Loop. From here, most people continue their ride towards
Rusty Shovel, but you could also double back to take your shot at the Gun Loop or some of the moto tracks such as Loop 3 or Granny Gear.
