Description
The earthen forest road starts from the via Alle Fontane, which heads south from Cabbio and ends at
Passo Bonello just north of Cabbio. It's quiet riding on an unpaved forest road. The highlight of the route is the small chapel of Gabbio near the westernmost point (although it isn't that spectacular).
There is a rather confusing junction at 3 km (1.8 mi) into the route near an isolated hunting shack overlooking a small clearing. A number of trails come together here and this is the one place in all of Switzerland where the MTB route sign seemed to be missing, so it is easy to take the wrong turn. You want the not-so-obvious one that continues straight, not the enticing singletrack to the right that heads straight uphill to the Dosso D'Arla eventually becoming impassable.
Just after this junction, you'll have a short 1 km (0.6 mi) descent almost all the way back to Cabbio losing all that hard-won altitude, but this stretch is narrower and marginally more challenging than the rest of the trail.
