Description
The
Rainbow Valley Trail is used as a bypass to
Roman's Rise, Kylie's Crossing, and Brian's Brink or to make a larger cross-country loop around FINS.
It starts smooth, but you'll quickly gain speed as you descend towards
Rainbow Valley Road. It then goes around one Palo Verde tree, where the trail becomes flowy and enjoyable. Riders will then cross through some light sand before approaching the one significant climb up the mountain face.
Carry momentum from the flat section to clear this, as it is often loose from those hike-a-bikers not prepared for such an incline. The trail becomes lined with jagged rocks up top here, so be careful with tire placement. A quick right-hander sends you into a decently quick descent into a wash. Make sure your speed is controlled at the top of the wash or it will be easy to take too much speed and overshoot the turn. The trail is mostly hardpack from here, with manageable sand on the top layer.
