Overview

This loop ride makes for a good tour of the area. The moderate length is punctuated by some serious elevation gain with lots of ups and downs. This one can be accessed from the Bootleg Canyon parking lot.

Description

Head northwest from the parking area and hang a left onto IMBA, West Leg, Girl Scout connector. This short trail continues to climb to the south before linking up with IMBA. Enjoy the easier grades as this trail traverses west past Ernie's and Mother and Par None. IMBA continues to wind, climbing higher with some switchbacks before arriving at POW around 1.5 miles from the start. Hang a right here (north) onto POW and continue the climb onto Ernie's and Mother and then onto Coyote Loop for a bonus effort to the first high point of the ride.

Bomb down the backside of the Coyote Loop before turning right (west) onto Ernie's and Mother. The next four miles or so follow Ernie's and Mother with lots of short ups and downs heading to the north past Caesar. Here, just past six miles from the start, the trail heads down and then continues to Inner Caldera, and finally ends with the high point of the ride near the start of Girl Scout.

The beginning of the loop is a bit grueling with a long uphill followed by a steep downhill, however, there is plenty of fun to be had later on. Be prepared for traffic on Girl Scout, since this is one of the trails that people can shuttle up. It's also a nice way to end your ride with a nice, flowy downhill!
