This trail may become sticky death mud during a rain event. Give the trail a bit of time to dry out before riding.
Description
This is a long-awaited addition to the
Black Canyon Trail (BCT) - IMBA EPIC. The climbing grades are in line with the rest of the BCT, meaning: friendly.
Rideing the trail southbound, it contours to a high point below the summit of Copper Mountain. The trail then meanders along, trending downhill until popping out on a dirt road and gate marked 'U Cross Ranch'. Proceed through the gate and keep your eyes peeled for a faint singletrack and small cairn leading off to the left. This is only 100 feet or so after the gate.
The trail winds through scrub brush and is noticeably more primitive in nature than the first half. There is another area where the trail gets a bit vague—take the path of least resistance and keep the fenceline close to your left. Again, this only lasts for a few hundred feet before the trail becomes easy to follow.
There are marking flags still present on the ground and in surrounding vegetation as this trail is not currently signed. The final miles twist and turn through rock outcroppings and drop down a series of switchbacks. Some exposure is present. Finally, the 8.5-mile loop rejoins the BCT roughly 3/4 of a mile north of the Old Sycamore Road crossing.
