A trail that is redolent of a British public trail, even passing through a manor garden.

Description

This trail appears to be an easement almost entirely through private property, making it relatively unique in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is one of the longer singletracks in the East Bay as well. The trail is often bypassed by motor head mountain bikers heading to the core of Diablo. All of these aspects make for an unusual experience of country solitude in the midst of a megalopolis of some seven million people.

There are too many gates and turns to mark, so you have to keep your wits about you at some junctures to stay on the right path. The trail is more fun westbound than east, although in this direction it hits a stiff climb early that will be hike-a-bike for most. But after that, it is a fun downhill with some surprising drops into sharp turns in and out of draws followed by long, fast straightaways where you wonder if you might hit something hidden in the almost overgrown trail.
