Description

Colonel Hunt is accessed through Butterfield Trail from which it splits and loops back approximately 0.75 miles from the main trailhead. It is very similar to Butterfield with tight singletrack that winds though the timber and features several shallow dips into dry creek beds. There is little elevation change throughout.

The trail will intersect and direct you down a gravel road a couple of times but quickly turns you back into the timber. The entries back to the trail are well marked with white arrows on t-posts that are hard to miss.

Once you reach the power-line right-of-way, keep right along the timberline where you’ll have a chance to gain some speed downhill and zip across a wooden bridge and back up to the trail. From there, you have the choice to either turn right and finish Colonel Hunt or stay straight and take a bypass that intersects Oil Rig trail.
