Description

Every area of riding in the Pequops is different. If you are basing out of the Pequop Summit Rest area this is one of four ways to explore Paine Basin. Since this is a primitive road I prefer the singletracks Nanny Creek and Elk Canyon.

Taking Pierce Ridge, the primitive road accessing Paine Basin, it is all downhill. Stay straight and pass Nanny Creek (right turn) Elk Ridge (right turn) and Elk Canyon (right turn). When you hit the dirt maintenance road you'll continue down about 0.25 miles past the maintenance station and turn right at a "Y" in the road. Prickly Pear will be a left about 0.25 miles further.

From there you can return to Pequop Summit via I-80, the dirt maintenance road that parallels I-80 on the south or any of the trails you took down. Pirerce Ridge has excellent views, and strangely enough is one of the few times you can see or hear I-80 from any trail in Paine Basin.
