Need to Know
Although the scenery and terrain are awesome, this is not a mountain bike trail; it is a cattle trail. Multiple meandering side-trails will confuse first-time riders. Just keep your end goal in sight, and most trails will meet back up.
A dropper post and nice rear tires help keep the steeps under control!
Description
This is a technical singletrack trail that offers views of Copeman's Tomb and Shell Falls. Steep, loose descents, and rocky, narrow trail sections make this a difficult but awesome ride.
First, drop a car at the end of Beef Trail #056 just below the switchbacks down Shell Canyon, west of Shell Falls. Next, drive up the canyon (east) until you come to Rd 264, on the north side of the road. Ride Rd 264 to the end.
When the road ends, cross the river, bushwhack for 20 feet, and ride on the singletrack, taking a left at the first fork (the right goes up to Cedar Canyon and a cool little lake).
Follow trail #056 as best you can, crossing Cedar and Cottonwood Creeks. Bomb down to the base of the river and follow along with the bank the last mile to your shuttle car. Steep, loose, and scary sections require a few hike-a-bike moments.
