Overview
This loop option was great especially if you like a long ride with great views and a combination of flow and technical riding. This route covers most of the trails around the beginning of the Kokopelli Loops, sandwiched between the Colorado River and I-70. It starts with easier trails and ends with more difficult trails. There are numerous cut-offs, bailouts, and alternates along the route. I didn't see very many riders, especially for a weekend.
Description
Park at the Kokopelli trailhead on
Hawkeye Road, off the Loma exit of I-70. This ride has almost everything because you'll be riding most everything! Read the individual trail descriptions that make up this ride so you know what to expect.
From the parking lot, ride up the dirt road and down to
Rustler's Loop and ride CCW. Ride back up the dirt road 1,000 feet to
Wrangler Loop on the left (ride east to west on
Wrangler). Ride Kokopelli/
Mary's Loop south to
Horsethief Bench Loop and ride it CW.
Ride Kokopelli/
Mary's Loop northwest to
Steve's Loop and ride it CW. Ride Kokopelli/
Mary's Loop north to
Lion's Loop (ride west). Ride
Lion's Loop all the way to the north end of
Troy Built.
Ride
Troy Built all the way until it intersects with
Mack Ridge. Ride
Mack Ridge east until you reach the intersection of a parking area,
Mary's Loop, and
Moore Fun. Ride
Mary's to Kokopelli/
Mary's back to the parking lot.
If you still have water, energy, and time, take
Moore Fun back to the parking lot to bolster your "dirt cred". If you're completely cooked, drop down to
Hawkeye Road and ride it back to the parking lot.
