Need to Know
There is a brand new parking lot along CR110 just before the Spartan trail crossing on CR110, on the right. A new
Spartan Connector trails runs out of the south end of the parking lot into
Spartan West. Turn left (east) to get to Spartan East.
Description
Spartan East is a new two-way mountain bike optimized beginner trail in the Methodist Mountain trail system. For those who are riding from town up CR110 towards the trailhead of
Little Rainbow, this new trail is one way to get off the road sooner, and ties into the
Little Rainbow trail, about 2.5 miles east of the 110TH.
Together with the new
Spartan West and
Little Rainbow, it makes for a nice 5.5-mile loop using the 110 TH, in both directions. Or ride it as part of a longer ride from-or-to
Race Track via
Little Rainbow. Or do whatever you want :-)
Most of this trail rolls and turns through the piñons and arroyos, while there is also a large 'bowl' section that features some of the biggest trees in the Methodist Mountain trail system. This shady section is literally the coolest spot along the trail.
Spartan East crosses one big and several smaller dry washes. They are very soft and can bog you down, although they should pack down over time. In general, this trail has friendly average grades, but there are a few short sections (at the east end) that will require the use of the granny gear.
Spartan East was designed by Salida Mountain Trails and fine-tuned and built by Arrowhead Trails Inc. for SMT.
