Overview
The start is close to the old harbor of Bergen in the center of the city. The first part of the route is still in the city with wooden houses on small roads and bike paths (paved).
You'll cross the funicular
rail track several times going uphill. The small train stops at Fløyen station where you'll have a wonderful view of Bergen and the fjord.
The next part is on gravel trails through dense forest until you reach the very top of the mountain. Here you see an open landscape with small lakes and heather. Continue straight onto
Tarlebøveien heading northeast on an easy, beautiful downhill singletrack path around the mountain and back down to Lake Svartediket and Bergen east.
Though this route doesn't end where it begins, riders should be able to navigate easily back to the center of Bergen.
Need to Know
Cafe at Fløyen. You can also rent MTBs
here. This route also takes you up to the
cafe Brushytten.
Description
From downtown Bergen, the route starts with the last 3.4 km of the 2017 road world championship
course (individual time trial, men) up Mount Fløyen. The average grade is 9.1 percent uphill on paved road (won by Tom Dumoulin).
From Fløyen, the course takes you further up to the top point of the fjell to Store Tindevatnet, 558 meters above sea level. From this point on, the ride travels mostly on gravel with some singletrack on
Tarlebøveien.
Overall, this is an easy but steep non-technical route that's perfect for an XC hardtail.
