Need to Know

The Next Jen trail (aka Next Jeneration) includes a major reroute of the lower portion of the original Jens trail, which was constructed in 2018 to remain completely on BLM land.

Description

Next Jen connects Creek Side to Skull Bucket Trail & Overie, climbing its way through gnarled oak tree groves and sage meadows. The views of Mount Sopris from the high point are worth a full stop and break... and you'll probably need it. The uppermost set of switchbacks are a challenge and they are preceded by a short but very steep segment of trail that only the strongest will clear.

Most of the trail provides for a great climb, with some brief flat and down sections to roll you into the next bit of pedaling. Tight corridor vegetation will require your attention, especially with wider handlebars.

This trail also rides well in the downhill direction although most riders will use it as a climb. About halfway up the trail, you can find the Dinkle Link Trail, which connects to the Prince Creek / West Sopris Creek Divide Trailhead and Parking Lot.

Rode Next Jen today...evidently had recent driven cattle herd up the trail as copious piles of crap entire way up. Came upon the herd at the summit.

A good start, I guess. Many stumps on edge of tread as well as a few in the tread, seems not much care given during construction of trail. 3mi — 0h 30m

rode with chris, in near darkness; very pretty, not as steep as I figured, still tough; more fun going down (obviously), even in the dark 1mi
