Overview
Fairly steep in sections, this ride transitions up the
Sturgis Fork #903 trail to a relatively level section of the
Boundary Trail #1207 for lots of old growth interspersed with meadow views to the west terminating at Horse Springs.
Need to Know
Bring a folding saw to eliminate handle bar snagging brush. We are "they" when it comes to trail maintenance.
Description
This ride starts from the TH on the
Sturgis Fork #903 trail until it meets the
Boundary Trail #1207. Turn left and ride out towards Horse Springs.
The
Boundary Trail #1207 is pretty mellow ridge top riding, with a few short, steep sections (that could absolutely be improved with a bit of redesign to eliminate erosion and make the trail friendlier). Bring a folding saw, and if you see problems, fix them as we are "they" when it comes to trail maintenance here.
There is a nice transition to dry meadow at first, before sections of old growth as the trail drops slightly off the ridge top and onto the west-facing side for some nice meadow views. The wildflowers at Horse Springs are dope!
The
Boundary Trail #1207 can be ridden further past toward the boundary with Red Buttes Wildnerss, but I think Horse Springs is a good turn around for a short ride. If you go further, be prepared to put in some work on the trail!
