Overview
This loop connects debatably the best trails that Berry has to offer. The ride starts at the trailhead for the
House o' Dreams, which has parking at the Friendship dorm.
Description
Follow the gravel road a few miles up the mountain, which is a long gradual climb. This first climb is part of
Hurtin' Gator and the
House o' Dreams climb. At the top is the
House o' Dreams, a highlight of Berry. There is a nice view of the college and surrounding countryside, so soak it in before you begin the downhill.
If you go past the house to the swing set, there is a sign that says "Bike Trail." Follow this trail for a while, it contains some technical, rocky downhill. In summer of 2023 a skid steer drove up this trail, destroying most of the features and making it very washed out and unpredictable. Use caution when navigating this section due to how conditions can change quickly with the weather. This segment is the
House o' Dreams downhill. Follow the skid steer tracks down and you'll reach the fire-road.
At the bottom, there is a three-way fork; immediately take the sharp left to go downhill for a mile or so on a fire road. This segment is part of a trail called The Post. Once you get to the black gate, take a right onto the singletrack
Reservoir Connector and a right at the fork. This goes downhill and meets up at the reservoir. Berry College has left up old signs from COVID-19 saying the trails are closed, and evidently has stopped maintaining since 2019 so conditions may vary on use by locals, and could be overgrown. It is recommended that you be familiar with very technical terrain and have a suitable bike for this section. Otherwise, you can take fire roads down which will connect to the reservoir path that is detailed in this next section.
Take a left onto the reservoir path (
Mountain Goat) and follow it until you get on the paved road past the Old Mill. Follow the road until you get to the Friendship dorm. This completes the loop.
