Description
This trail is not really technically difficult, but most of it is on a VERY STEEP GRADE! Thus, only the strongest riders will enjoy this trail. The only saving grace is that it's short enough that you could feasibly push up the steeps and still enjoy the ride back down.
Park either in the Garden Valley Guard Station lot or across the highway in the dirt lot. The well-marked trail starts from the dirt lot and the steep climb starts immediately. If the first few hundred yards seem like too much, keep in mind that most of the trail maintains a similar grade all the way up.
At just over 2.5 miles, you'll come to an impossibly steep climb with wooden steps built into the slope. Most will want to turn around or simply hike from here, as the end of the trail is only about 200 yards farther at a prominent point with some great views of the Garden Valley area.
For those hardy enough to pedal or push uphill, you'll be rewarded with some smooth, flowy in places, classic Idaho singletrack. The soils in the area are very sandy, so the trail is rideable almost anytime it isn't snow-covered (usually early April through November). However, this also means that extra caution is advised while descending the steep grades.
