Description
This pretty easy trail starts off about a third of the way up on the
Water Tower Trail and takes you on a tour of the northern part of the
Wilmington Town Forest as it loops back on itself about half way out. There is a really muddy stretch a little ways along the trail before the end of the loop that crosses a section of wetland and is a result of damage from ATV use. Unless it hasn't rained in a while and the ground has dried up a bit—it may not be possible to ride through and you'll need to walk the bike through the slop.
You'll run into a number of downed trees along this trail and especially the connectors leading up to it from Ballardvale Street. Some you can ride around, others you'll likely need to dismount to get past.
The easternmost part of the loop takes you through a corner of Camp Forty Acres. You'll see some camp structures as you make the turn - don't worry, you're not lost. It's still the town trail, it just passes through a corner of the camp. With the exception of having to dismount to get through the muddy stretch or over a few downed trees, this is a pretty easy and pleasant trail.
