Need to Know
No park fees. This is a conservation area with no public restrooms. The trail is multi-use so it is open to hikers and horseback riding. Hunting is also allowed, so wear proper attire during popular hunting seasons.
Description
The trail starts north of the parking lot. I was fooled by a trail heading straight out of the parking area going south. From Tomlin Lane Trailhead, the trail is a singletrack downhill run to the Bonfemme Creek. Here, you have to navigate the creek bed to where the trail picks up on other side, around 50 feet to the left as you pop out on the creek bed.
Most of the remainder of the trail is on old service road. There is a spur off of the service road that dead ends, as can be seen in the southwest corner of this track. The main trail turns northeast and starts a long climb out of the valley. On the ridge, most of the trail is across open prairie, which was beautiful with wildflowers in late summer.
The trail takes you to another trailhead. There is one other multi-use route not yet mapped to the south-central parking lot. The area is heavily wooded with deep valleys and scenic overlooks.
