A high-clearance vehicle is recommended to reach the trailhead.

Need to Know

The roads in the Fourmile Recreation Area can be rough, making this a bit difficult to reach. High-clearance vehicles will fare better.

This area also sees a good amount of OHV use.

Description

Ridden westbound, this trail has a sustained moderate climb followed by a rowdy descent. When ridden eastbound, there's a 1.3-mile hike-a-bike followed by fun and flow on the way down. Either way, you are rewarded for your effort. There are a bunch of ruined cabins half way through the trail that must have a story to tell.

This trail requires a bit of work to get to, a the roads can get pretty torn up from weather and 4x4 use. They are, however, great roads to ride, so if you're looking for some added mileage, consider making it a loop by adding in some gravel grinding.

If these walls could speak, I wonder what stories they'd tell?

Avoid weekend crowds. From west TH it was 1.8 miles (35 min.) of ride & hike-a-bike to cabins with some technical stuff. Return ride only took 18 min.
