Description
Dome Rock Trail is a hidden gem in the Wet Mountains for the advanced technical rider. Riding this trail requires a bike up second mace trail which is steep and loose, but rewards you with a punishingly rowdy descent. Dome rock begins with steep ruts and unpolished berms and continues into long sections of technical rock gardens, some have one good line and some have multiple lines to chose from! These rock gardens can be fun to smash through like a seasoned world cup racer, but be warned they are not for the faint of heart. As you descend you find your self gaining speed in small sections of smooth trail interrupted by the aforementioned rock gardens. Eventually you begin to cross a creek. This is where the trail can become a bit tiresome if you are easily bothered by having to get off your bike and traverse boulder filled creek beds. The trail ends at its intersection with Squirrel Creek Trail. From here you can follow it down to Carhart trail and back to the pueblo mountain park for a fun shuttle ride where you still earn your miles technically and physically. Alternatively, ride back up squirrel creek trail to the second mace trailhead - You'll earn your miles this way. It is important to note that the trails in this area, including Dome Rock, are open to moto, so you can expect motorized traffic, punchy climbs, and the frequent loose rock/boulder. Keep your eyes open, don't be afraid to walk your bike, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the intense natural trail, and the secluded nature of the Wet Mountain trails.
