Overview
An awesome trail that used to be unsanctioned and has since been adopted by the WMBC. Now sanctioned, well-maintained and ridden by people from all over Whatcom county. It is one of my favorite trails because I feel like you get a good bang for your buck (pedal to descent ratio), you are riding on really cool terrain, and you get a good variety of trail features and sections.
Description
Parking for Cougar Ridge starts in the Lake Louise Trailhead parking lot, which can fill up quickly on weekends and sunnier days.
Most riders will use the Rufus Creek trail to climb up to the starting point for Cougar Ridge. Once you get to the junction you'll see the sign for Cougar Ridge, however, to the left of the trail is the remainder of the original unsanctioned portion. Riders who wish to ride the upper half will have to push their bikes up to the top. Otherwise, take a right at the T junction and continue on down the trail.
The trail has a few technical rock moves, a small drop (with an optional easier ride around), and lots of fun, fast, and flowy corners towards the bottom.
It should be mentioned that there is a quite large rock-roll to step up that still exists from when the trail was unsanctioned. The name of this feature is "El Diablo", they (WMBC) have put up signs and a fence to close off the original entrance to the move.
