Overview

If you're looking to extend your ride after reaching Sitting Rock, consider tacking on the Cub Run Loop. The initial descent is fun, a little rocky, and gets more and more technical the further you get into the trail. You'll know you're at the end of the descent when you start the very tight switchbacks. You'll need need to do several creek crossings to get to the gravel road - be prepared to get wet, especially if it has been raining anytime before you ride this loop.

Description

After descending Second Mountain #580 and Massanutten Mountain South #416, you'll take the gravel Cub Run Road a few miles until you hit the FS marker for Martins Bottom #579. Hang a left and pedal up the fire road. Eventually, you'll encounter an intersection at the end of the fire road - pedal towards 'Boon's Shelter' on Fridley Gap #419, you'll know you're on the right path because this section is extremely rocky and technical. Enjoy the descent as it takes you back to your first creek crossing, go over that, and head back up to Sitting Rock on Second Mountain #580.

Cub Run Loop is typically part of the Massanutten Hoo Ha XXC and is not a frequently travelled loop. Go with a riding partner as there is no cell service back there.
