Hawk's Head is accessed from the Yellow Trail and best run in the direction shown here. It begins with a quick, steep descent down almost to the lake level. There are several swooping turns. Then you've got to partially climb back up from the lake over towards the campground area.

The official map shows that the trail continues along the opposite side of the paved campground road, but like the other advanced trails at Rock Hawk, Hawk's Head was completely covered over in leaves. There was little evidence of a trail on the other side of the road.

There were a few markers with a painted Hawk's Head, but they were few and far between.
