Description
Cave Creek Trail #673 (also County Road M31) starts at County Road M33 and follows Cave Creek up-stream into the national forest.
After about 6 miles, it intersects Raspberry Trail (FS 678). Bear left to continue on Cave Creek Trail. After the trail crosses the creek, it leaves CR M31 which continues straight, while Cave Creek Trail splits right and begins switching back up the mountainside through forest.
After a few more miles you'll exit the treeline at 11,500 feet over a saddle on top of the ridge. Here you'll intersect the
La Garita Stock Driveway Trail #787 which skirts Boot Mountain to your right and continues at or above treeline for many miles to the La Garita Wilderness. Left, the Stock Driveway heads south to the start of
La Garita Creek Trail #793.
Cave Creek Trail descends from here towards the La Garita Creek valley. After about a mile of descending you'll intersect the La Garita Creek Trail dropping steeply to the valley floor on your left. Cave Creek Trail dead ends about 1 mile ahead on the mountainside.
