Need to Know

While it's more fun (read: downhill) to start at Forest Road 110 and head south, the easiest access for this section is from HWY 64 just northwest of Ghost Ranch, which makes a hearty out-and-back.

Also ridden as the last-leg of a 2 to 4 day trek from the Cumbres Pass to HWY 64.

Description

Starting from HWY 64, the trail climbs steeply up a 2-track before gaining a high bench valley above Ghost Ranch. After around 3 miles, it descends into a cool, suspiciously lush creek bottom where the route pinches down to more of a singletrack experience as it follow the canyon bottom north west, making multiple creek crossings (some with water).

At around 7 miles from HWY 64, you'll hit the new singletrack tread dug in by a crews of volunteers intent on getting the CDT off the roads and into the flow. This is where the fun really begins.

The trail winds through forests and open meadows, obtaining Magote Ridge before traversing north to Forest Road 110.

Turn around and descend the 2,500 feet back to your car.
