Overview
This route connects Sierra Vista Open Space to Alum Rock. It is the funnest ride at Alum Rock that I could find after trying all the trails in different order. I only rated the difficulty this high due to steep terrain and loose gravel trails.
Description
Start out in the Sierra Vista Open Space parking lot. Take Kestrel down to
Sierra Vista Trail and take a right towards
Boccardo Loop Trail. At
Boccardo Loop Trail, turn left and take the loop clockwise until you hit the connector trail where you take a left and head down to
Todd Quick Trail. Here, you take a right and head down
Todd Quick Trail counter-clockwise until you hit the
North Rim Trail. Head right down to the parking lot or left to connect to Old Alum Rock Falls Road.
Alum Rock is very steep and there are 3 back ways up.
1) I prefer to shuttle for at least one free ride by parking up at Sierra Vista parking lot.
2) The easiest way up is to take old Alum Rock Falls Road up to Calaveras Fault
Trail and then connecting back via
Sierra Vista Trail.
3) Otherwise, out and back is an option for those who don't mind a stout climb and park at Alum Rock.
