Need to Know

A paved parking area is located on Concord Rd. near Estes Rd. This is not gated and is open round the clock. You can enter at the lake boat landing, but this area is gated and closes at 7 PM.

Description

This trail circles Lake Whelchel in Gaffney, SC. The majority of the trail is a newly constructed hardpack clay trail perfect for fast riding. There are some areas with pea gravel surfaces, primarily around the dam, that can be a little slippery. The trail is a succession of quick and easy ups and downs flowing through the forest. Only one very short but very steep climb is located on the westernmost portion of the loop. There are several wooden bridges across streams that do not have wire or any other surface roughening installed—they will be slick if wet.
