Overview

A royal flush of western North Carolina riding. Gravel, BRP pavement, fire roads, singletrack, and hike a bike. Technical descents, technical and sustained climbs, and world class scenic pavement.

(Cue Yoda voice) Switchback game strong must be!

Need to Know

Restroom and water at Curtis Creek.

Description

Well, it's a big fuggin' ride. Start with the switchies on Kitsuma Trail. Connect to Star Gap using Graphite Rd. More switchies on Star Gap to lower Heartbreak Ridge. Heartbreak Ridge to Jarrett Creek Road - FSR 4030. Enjoy the rolling cruise of Jarrett Creek Road - FSR 4030. Begin a 10 mile plus climb. There's water at the CC campground during open seasons.

Left on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sure, it's pavement but man is it pretty! Look for Heartbreak Ridge on the left—it's signed but is basically a hole in the rhodo. Survive the Heartbreak Ridge descent. Right on Star Gap at the junction. Graphite Road to Point Lookout. Chocolate milk time!

If you're bat-guano crazy and wanted a 10K climbing day, continue on BRP and climb and out-and-back to the top of Mt. Mitchell.
