Need to Know

Watch out for people on horseback. This is a popular riding trail.

Description

The Muddy Trail is accessed from the Left Hand Fork Trail. There are two entrances to the trail. The first is marked by a large sign on the right-hand side of the doubletrack portion of the trail. However, the condition of the trail from the marked access point is very poor: loose, rocky, and steep. It is better to continue up the Left Hand Fork Trail to the point where it, the stream, and the access road almost intersect. Continue straight ahead into the trees along the right of the stream.

The trail turns right and goes up the side of the hill. It is quite steep, and probably not rideable by any but the most experienced bikers in good shape. Once it reaches the top of the first steep grade, it's much flatter for a while. A shallow descent takes you again to the streambed, where the Muddy Trail joins the Bottom Trail. The Muddy Trail allows bikers to access the Bottom Trail, skipping a long, boring section of access road that goes past Camp Wapiti and beyond, ending at a chainlink fence.
