Description
Going east on I-70, take exit 226 for Silver Plume. Turn south (left) and go under the I-70 bridge, pass the on/off-ramps, and come to Mountain Street (330), which is a T in the road. Turn right (east) and go to end of the gravel where you'll find the TH on the left. Roll around the gate and your on your way!
The trail up the Argentine Central Railroad Grade (ACRG) is a steady, gentle ascent of approximately 900ft. Several offshoots appear but the trail is consistently marked with directional signs. You pass by multiple old mines as you trek through evergreen and aspen forest on the way to Pavilion Point, just shy of the 4mi mark. At the end of the singletrack, roll around the gate and you'll see an old chimney, and then just a few steps up the hill and onto Pavilion Point. From here you gain stunning views east (Georgetown) and west (down the I-70 corridor and valley).
Now follow the ACRG/jeep road down, going south, to
Leavenworth Creek Road #248.1 - this is the official finish point of the ACRG, but unless you have dropped a vehicle here, simply go all the way to the Guanella Pass blacktop and cruise into Georgetown. Best as a point-to-point ride from Silver Plume to Georgetown, but you could turn around at Pavilion Point and return to Silver Plume.
