Description

Meyronne is a tiny mountain hamlet with a lovely cafe that is popular with the motorcyclists who seem to love this area and its seven cols.

From here you drop down to cross the rowdy Ubayette River on a high bridge, then start climbing up a steep road that would be miserably eroded and loose if they hadn't concreted this section--yay! When you near the top of the climb, you have the option to detour over a few kilometers to visit one of the Maginot Line structures: Fort de Roche la Croix.

The concrete ends and you continue following a dirt road through the forest, with great wildflowers and occasional views of the dramatic canyon as you descend a series of steep switchbacks to regain the valley floor near the confluence of the Ubayette with the Ubaye River. Pedal a stretch of the D900 until breaking left onto a dirt road that parallels the river until it crosses it and the D900 again. Work your way into the hills and back down to Jausiers.
