State Park Pass required ($5/day or $30/yr.)
Two-way trail. Expect traffic in both directions.
Bikes and pedestrians welcome. Horses are not allowed. Please inform any equestrian riders you might come across that this trail is not open to horses, and inform park officials as well.
Description
This two-way trail not only adds a new trail (in some lovely terrain!) to the Catamount system, but also provides easy access to a second parking option in addition to the 214 trailhead. The trail starts/ends near the sizable paved parking lot just north of the Silver Falls Lodge and Conference Center.
Follow the
Smith Creek Connector from the parking lot, and enter Wormhole on the left. The top of the trail is located at the base of the main
Newt Loop skills area, which includes
Rock Up and Over,
29 Turns, and Advanced Drops (the last was opened at the same time as this trail).
Wormhole is relatively steep in a few spots, but for the most part is a straightforward climbing/descending trail with some nice switchbacks and fun berms, plus a few optional kickers thrown in for good measure. Flow is nicely maintained on the downhill, and climbing is relatively consistent with a couple punchy sections to keep the heart rate up!
