Description
The 400 State Trail starts in Reedsburg Wisconsin. A trail pass is needed, which this can be purchased at the old train depot at the start of the trail. The pass is $5.00 per day or $25.00 for the year. There is a parking lot at the train depot to park your vehicle.
This trail is mixed use, walkers, bikers, and horse riders. Bikers are to yield to both walkers and horses. The trail does cross a road in each city (Reedsburg and La Valle). There is a cross walk/bike lane indicated and cars did stop when we crossed.
There are parks, restrooms, and scenic views from the trail with plenty of rest stops and benches to take in the views.
The path itself is crushed gravel. Horses are to use the grass path next to the walking/biking trail. There are bridges that all traffic on the trail will share. We did not get far enough on the trail, but there are old train tunnels that you'll go through. On this short section of the trail, there is one tunnel that you'll go through. The day that we went though the tunnel, due to all the rain, it may have standing water in the tunnel, so be careful.
Hopefully in 2020 the trail will be fixed, and the entire trail is ride-able.
