Access at the bottom of this trail is blocked by a gate and signs. I talked with the owner, and they confirmed that it is private property and have no trespassing signs posted. The north side is open, but there is no way to get onto the south side of the trail.
Description
Lots of street parking on Foothill at Dominica Ave. Ride up Dominica 0.25 miles onto Courtship Ranch and look to the left for the beginning of the fire road. Another 0.25 miles on the road and you'll pass a metal gate into the Angeles National Forest.
The climb up to
Oliver Canyon Road is a lesson in the effects of wildfire and the recovery process from it. Loose hillsides slide across the road and join older piles of graded sand, seeded ridges spill color into grassy vales, and little creatures poke their heads out of the grass to watch you pedal by. At Oliver Saddle, BP&L Road continues down to its junction with
Ebey Herreres Truck Trail, but most riders will want to turn right and head east along the ridge on
Oliver Canyon Road towards Larsen Saddle.
From the Little Tujunga side, most riders will climb from
Ebey Herreres Truck Trail or the bottom of
Doc Larsen Trail on their way back to Foothill Blvd. or Larsen Saddle. Ebey Canyon and Oliver Canyon form a big figure-8 network of fire roads that ring the canyons and meet at Larsen Flat. Each canyon also features singletrack trails that generally criss-cross the canyons, so many combinations of fire road climbs and singletrack descents can be strung together depending on how long you want your ride to be.
